Day care disclosure urged

Lawmakers want caregivers to post their violations
OLYMPIA -- Milynn and Margot Wetzel of Monroe want parents to know more about the day care centers with which they entrust their children.

The Wetzels, whose 17-month-old daughter was kicked and stomped to death by a day care operator last June, are supporting legislation to make it easier for parents to get more information. And, the Wetzels have important advocates on their side. Women lawmakers hold the majority in the state Senate and rank children's issues a top priority.

Sens. Jeanine Long, R-Mill Creek, and Jeralita "Jeri" Costa, D-Marysville, are co-sponsoring a proposal, SB5132, that would require licensed day cares to clearly post violations in their facilities. More...
